India's first planned city and one of South Asia's great modernist landmarks — where bold Corbusian design meets warm Punjabi hospitality.
Chandigarh was conceived as a beacon of modern India after Partition in 1947. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru commissioned the legendary Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier to design it from scratch — a meticulously planned city of 17 sectors, each self-sufficient with markets, schools, hospitals, and parks.
Le Corbusier designed the iconic Capitol Complex — the High Court, Secretariat, and Assembly — now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city's wide boulevards, green belts, and the famous Open Hand Monument embody his vision of a city in harmony with nature and humanity.
